World Elephant Day Fundraiser
August 12, 2019 we were able to meet and beet our goal of raising $500 for Heart of Ganesh and were able to raise $615!!
From the Director of Heart of Ganesh:
"Hitting the $500 goal would allow us to hand out backpacks filled with school supplies for every child, provide satchels of teaching supplies for the 2 teachers and the School Director, and paint the inside of the school with bright colors, which will help counter the lack of lights and electricity and brighten the space to better see, learn, and read.
What does a project like “Elephants Can’t Read” really have to do with World Elephant Day?
If we want to save the last of the wild elephants and bring humane treatment to those already in captivity, then some of the focus must be on those who live among the elephants, particularly the struggling ethnic minority population. Access to education and additional support for these extremely rural schools in “elephant lands” can help change the future for elephants living in the greater surrounding area by giving options and choices for livelihoods that are in keeping with coexistence. Given a chance, these impoverished children of subsistence farmers and foragers could become the elephant’s greatest supporters, saving what’s left of the wild ."nes and tending those in captivity with love and respect.
